Fifty-six patients with esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula were treated between 1982 and 1989. Thirteen (24%) had a primary repair before 1 year of age and no fistula. Atresia of the proximal esophagus was present in 38 (69%) and distal in 17 (31%). The median age at the primary repair was 21 days (range 4-130). Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) occurred in 26 (50%) and recurrent respiratory infections in 17 (33%). Seventeen (33%) patients had a revisional operation. The most common type of repair was myotomy in 8 (42%) patients. Esophageal dysmotility was present in 12 (71%) of these patients at the time of the revision and in 2 (33%) of the patients who had a primary repair. Surgical treatment for the atretic segments after the age of 4 months resulted in excellent long-term outcome.Image caption A top official said that data could be scraped from 500,000 cars a month
US officials are demanding that a data harvesting software company hand over details of its customers.
American Risk Analytics (ARA) is accused of obtaining customers' data from GPS and mobile phone manufacturers.
The firm, which is based in Seattle, says it is fully compliant with US law.
It has argued in a court case that it is not a "solution provider" - a company that makes computer programs or internet services - but merely offers a database to collect customer data.
It says it only gains customer information when customers choose to share the data with it.
It is being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, which says it has evidence the firm was harvesting data in an "unlawful manner".
According to a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, ARA was charging a fee to companies that wanted to "unlock" the GPS or cellphone data.
The company also says it had agreements with 25 phone companies and five US states that allowed it to access and search their customer information.

In court filings, the company argues that its customers were fully informed about the agreement.
